Martinez-Platoon

Hi, my name is Adrian Martinez, I'm a senior in com des who will hopefully graduate this fall. Drawing anything and everything has been my talent and hobby since I could remember. I have no specific drawing style I just like to make my drawings as detailed as possible the best I can. With the encouragement of my family to continue drawing and make use of my talent in art I was motivated to continue drawing and also curios what other media I may be good at using besides pencil and paper. After all, I can do many things since drawing is the foundation to laying out concepts for any project. Since graphic design art via computers was the most different media of what I used before I was curious to exploring my limit of creativity and possibly discovering other talents I may have, which lead me into com des.

I don't have a favorite poster but I like the Platoon movie poster. This poster shows the Vietnam War with Sgt. Elias a U.S. Soldier (movie character) on his knees wounded right before he is shot and killed by the vietnamese soldiers behind him while a friendly helicopter aides him with cover fire just a little too late. I like it because it captures the climax of the movie with Sgt. Elias dramatic death scene as he poses on his knees sacrificing himself. The size of the bombs are overly exaggerated and off set from the movie but neccessary for capturing the intensity and dramatization of the real thing, also the dog tags for the O's are awesome to.

Del Rio- White Bear

Hey Ya'll,
My name is Hailey Del Rio and I am a com des major, as are most in this class.  Unless some unforeseen horrific even happens I will be graduating in the fall.  I love animal, TV, reading, and food... especially food, self proclaimed foodie.  For my poster I picked Kathie Olivas white bear. I really love her child like imagery but with a little bit of a creepy vibe as well(as well as their giant heads).
White Bear

Scorse, Simplicity

My name is Brittany, I own a long haired chihuahua that I absolutely love to pieces and I do triathlons.

I cheated and picked two posters. Both I like for their simplicity and color palettes.

and also because I love coffee. I love the illustration also.

I really like the color palette and the balance of the three colors they used. I also am attracted to the intensity and contrast.

Henken

My name is Shane Henken and I am a com des and photo major. This is the perfect example for and of me. Clean lines, minimal, and damn refined. Not to mention, I love bikes.

Gann- In Voluptate Mors

My name is Shana Gann. Im a communication design and advertising major. I have changed my major about three times (I started as a costume design major) so my hope is that having two majors will satisfy my need for change. As of now my goal is to eventually work as an art director at an ad agency. I chose this poster because I love the imagery and how controversial it was for its time.

Perez

My name is Jose Perez. I chose this poster because I'm interested in furniture design and industrial design. I have made many furniture pieces already including a sofa, King size bed, entertainment center, dining table, end tables, and more. I will pursue my MA in industrial design. I have visited two east coast schools, and soon I will check out the west coast schools. No ID program in Texas.....lame.

OLESEN, Modern Dog-Further Your Creativity

Hi, my name is Sarah. My favorite color is pink and I like art with bright, bold colors and designs. I am excited to be in this class and learn more about what is new out there. I am from Houston, Texas and something interesting about me is, I am adopted :-) I love this poster because its has my favorite color, its bright, and I love butterflies or anything girly, so this poster is a good example of what interests me.

Desai "BandAid_Hulk"

I'm Sai, Senior and looking for an internship. I am from India so you will find my pretty cool British Indian English accent (means ignore my grammar and just continue listening to me) . I am a vegetarian and excited about my weight lifting class. I love to think creatively and this class is gonna be fun.

I like this poster because, when I saw this poster I thought "Even hulk can hurt him-self!" In a simple but clever manner it demonstrates the products main point/benefit; that it stretches and is flexible when applied to a wound therefore doing its job, no matter how flexible or active you might be, or where you might go with it on. I love it when an ad doesn't need copy and the product and the image say it all.

Woolsey - Angry Blue poster

Hey guys, I'm Liz. I'm 22 and graduate in December. I plan to work overseas after I graduate teaching English for a couple years, and then eventually work with a magazine company. I'm from the San Antonio area.

This poster is from Angry Blue. It's kind of hard to pick a favorite, but I really like the use of color and such in the poster. I believe this is a hand printed poster, which I value. The typography is very well put together as well and well balanced.

Childress - Pink Floyd

A little bit about me - My name is Annarose. I am a Mass Comm Major and and Art and design minor. This is my last semester before I graduate so I am pretty pumped that.

I have always been in love with this poster. I think the way the backs of the women are painted is pretty cool. I also like how they are all just kind of casually sitting there and not posing or anything. I would hang this poster on my wall and I really don't even listen to them very much, so I feel like that says something.

Statham - The Cars

My name is Shelley and I am a ComDes major. I will be graduating in August so I am looking forward to getting out into the real world and putting some of the skills I have learned to use.

Osorio - Durex Poster

Hello,

My name is Christian Osorio. I am native to Houston, Texas. Before transferring to Texas State in the fall of 2009 I acquired an associate degree with a focus in graphic design. I am now working toward my bachelor's degree in Communication Design with a minor in MassComm.

This is not necessarily my 'favorite' poster but the way they went about advertising this product is one of my favorite ways of conveying a message. Although very simple, this poster gets a big message across. 'Use our product and you will save a lot of money.' I find it simple, clever, unique, a bit humorous, and the message is clear.

Sanders - No Coast Craft-O-Rama

I am a senior, about to graduate in August.

Interesting things about me: I am left handed, I only know how to knit scarves and baby booties, and I fist bumped Adam West at Austin Comic Con last year.

I chose this poster because I really like the color scheme and I love the folk art-y style.

Boothby, Legos

I'm Laura Boothby and a communication design major. I plan to take my communication design major and hopefully find a job dealing with graphic design and art direction. Something interesting about me would be that I'm addicted to tortillas and queso, I actually do like Four Lokos, HUGE Cubs and Broncos fan, and that I used to do Irish dancing when I lived in California! haha
One of my favorite posters are the Legos advertisements.  My professor of my first communication design class showed us this poster in a lecture and I found it was super clever. I love simplicity and the Legos ads speak loud for how simple it is. The point behind legos is for kids to create and use their imagination and the Legos posters provide that really well.

Anderson "Why So Serious?"

The assignment directions say to write "something interesting about you", but it just so happens that just about everything about me is pretty darn interesting. My name is Miles Anderson. I have been into art my entire life and decided to pursue a career that could provide me with an outlet for my creativity. I feel that I was blessed with talent and intelligence (not to mention dashing good looks), so I try my best to to use them to their fullest extent.

Now for the poster. I love a lot of posters, far too many to post. In the interest of time, I went with one that was a little more contemporary that I thought was awesome when I first saw it. Everyone probably recognizes it by now, maybe to the point that some view it as a bit "played out." But I say f*** it, the poster is great. The fact that has seen so much exposure is the purpose of poster, in my opinion.

So, without further ado, here is the Why So Serious? poster for the very popular film, The Dark Knight:

Webber - Spirit movie poster

Favorite Poster:

"The Spirit" may have been a boring movie, you can't deny that this movie poster is pretty damn cool. What I love about this poster is it combines all the movie posters into one collection as billboards amongst a burning and dark city background. The colors, ranging from amber to black pop out and are just absolutely gorgeous as explosions and fire. Eve Mendes', Samuel J. Jackson's and Scarlett Jonansson's eyes certainly call the viewer's attention while Sarah Paulson expression is stuck in her own train of thought. If I can find this poster, I would like to hang it in my living room next to my other "Spirit" movie poster.
This poster contains more action then the movie...lol.

About Me:

I'm a Mass Communication - Electronic Media (broadcast news) major a Comm Des minor. I just finished my all the require d courses for my major and I need one more Comm Des class to graduate. Some of my student media activities include KTSW where I worked for the news and production departments for two semesters and I was the associate producer for the student run talk show "La Bella Vida."
