Kristy, Thumbs

My book is The Catcher and the Rye

My ideas is image based

There will be a head to shoulder shot of each character. The cover will unfold and each character will be revealed according to the order of the story.

I'm thinking about using celebrity faces to depict the characters in the story.

The art work will be done in illustrator and have a grunge type background.

Brief Summary
T he Catcher in the Rye is set around the 1950s and is narrated by a young man named Holden Caulfield. Holden is not specific about his location while he’s telling the story, but he makes it clear that he is undergoing treatment in a mental hospital or sanatorium. The events he narrates take place in the few days between the end of the fall school term and Christmas, when Holden is sixteen years old.

  1. I like the concept of revealing the characters in the story but why use celebrity faces? I'm not sure if this is part of the story but if it isn't I think illustrations would work better for characters. I think in books giving characters actual faces makes the reader lose the imagination that comes from reading a story. So an illustration or even a silhouette might be better, in my opinion.

  2. I agree with not using celebrity faces too. I feel that when you create a face you are forcing a certain picture into peoples minds and the are unable to create their own image of the person they are reading about. I think you should do an illustration too.

  3. its not a bad concept, i would like to see how its going to be folded and whats the actually book cover will look like. I hope to see that the concept of the folding of the characters to be tied in to the cover. but i do agree that the use of the celebrities may mislead the viewer.
